IBM Sterling · Positioning, market identity & GTM relaunch

Rebuilding market confidence around a proven name.

IBM had made a consequential portfolio decision. My mandate was to turn it into a coordinated global go-to-market motion that connected the market story to seller readiness, web, campaigns, events, field marketing, partners, and measurable performance.

A strong legacy identity had become harder to see.

Sterling had been acquired by IBM and later presented within Watson Supply Chain and Watson Customer Engagement. After portfolio divestitures, market uncertainty grew around the future of the remaining supply-chain business, even as search evidence and customer affinity continued to point to the Sterling name.

The business decision

Put Sterling back at the center

IBM reintroduced Sterling as the primary market identity and made supply chain the descriptor: IBM Sterling Supply Chain Suite.

My mandate

Turn the decision into a market motion

I led the integrated go-to-market activation: updating the digital presence, equipping sellers, coordinating global campaigns and events, engaging field marketing and partners, and connecting the launch to pipeline governance.

One identity, activated through the full GTM system.

The work was broader than a name change. It required a coordinated transition across every place customers, sellers, partners, and the market encountered the portfolio.

Market & digital

Make the new identity findable

Updated web experiences, campaign assets, social, paid media, product tours, videos, PDFs, and event messaging around the IBM Sterling identity.

Sales & ecosystem

Equip the people carrying the story

Connected seller readiness, IBM field marketing, business partners, global system integrators, client communities, and progression events to the relaunch.

Demand & accountability

Link the launch to commercial execution

Used targeted campaigns, a three-tier ABM framework, forecast-versus-actual reporting, pipeline reviews, and recovery actions to connect market activation to business performance.

The market responded, and the work became measurable.

IBM launch reporting captured a material increase in attention and engagement as the Sterling identity returned to market.

My role: IBM leadership made the portfolio and naming decision. I led the integrated go-to-market activation with global marketing, field, product, sales, agency, event, community, and partner teams. The results shown are IBM employer outcomes from that coordinated work.

Positioning matters when the organization can activate it.

This work reflects how I lead: connect market strategy to the operating system required to make it real across teams, channels, and measurable outcomes.
